Privacy Policy – Demofye
Effective date: 2026-10-07
Demofye respects your privacy. Screen recording software touches sensitive information by nature, so this policy sets out exactly what happens to your data at each stage. Recording and exporting without an account happens locally in your browser; data only leaves your device when you choose to sign in and save to the cloud, share, or use a cloud or AI feature.
1) Data We Collect
Without an account, Demofye does not collect or send your recordings anywhere. The recording, Auto Polish (cursor smoothing, zoom, captions) and the final MP4/GIF export all run locally in your browser.
When you sign in or save to the cloud, we collect:
- Account details: your name, email address and profile picture from your Google account, used to sign you in.
- Recordings: the screen video, microphone audio and webcam video you chose to save, plus the project you build from them.
- Interaction metadata: during a recording the extension notes mouse position, clicks, scrolling, key presses, focused elements and the page address of pages you navigate through, which is what drives automatic zoom, the drawn cursor and key badges. Characters typed into password fields are replaced with a dot and are never recorded. This metadata is uploaded only if you save the recording to your account.
- Session data: a sign-in cookie that keeps you logged in.
- Billing information: if you subscribe, your plan and subscription status. Payments are handled by our payment provider (Razorpay); we do not see or store your card number.
We do not collect:
- Health or other sensitive personal data
- Your location
- Your browsing history outside a recording you started
- The content of your emails, texts or messages
2) How We Use Data
Data is used strictly to:
- Record your screen, camera and microphone, as you requested
- Polish the recording and let you edit, export and share it
- Sign you in, store your projects and sync them across devices
- Generate captions, and AI voiceover or translation when you ask for them
- Provide teams, sharing and billing
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not use it for any purpose unrelated to running Demofye.
3) Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, trade or rent user data. We share data only with the service providers that run Demofye, and only as needed:
- Google for sign-in.
- Storage and hosting providers that hold the recordings, thumbnails and files you save to the cloud.
- Speech-to-text and AI providers for captions, AI voiceover and AI translation (see section 4).
- Razorpay to process subscription payments.
Share links make a rendered video reachable by anyone with the link, or password-protected if you configure it that way. You control who receives a link.
4) AI Processing
Caption generation transcribes your recording's audio. AI voiceover and AI translation (Pro and above) send text and/or audio to third-party AI providers to generate speech or translated captions. The Auto Focus engine that decides where to zoom runs entirely on interaction metadata (coordinates and timestamps), not on video content, so it does not send your screen recording to an AI model.
5) Local Storage
The extension stores your preferences locally using Chrome storage, such as the default capture mode, camera and microphone choice, and shortcut settings. It also keeps the state of an in-progress recording so it survives a browser restart of the extension process. This data:
- Stays on your device
- Is not transmitted anywhere
- Can be removed by uninstalling the extension
6) Permissions Explanation
- desktopCapture: shows Chrome's own picker so you choose which screen, window or tab to record. Nothing is captured until you confirm.
- activeTab: identifies the tab being recorded when you click Start Recording.
- scripting: fallback injection of the recording helper into a tab that was already open before you installed or updated the extension.
- storage: keeps your preferences and in-progress recording state locally.
- cookies: reads, and on sign-out removes, only Demofye's own sign-in cookie so you stay signed in. It cannot read cookies for any other site.
- notifications: alerts you to a recording problem, such as camera or microphone access being denied.
- Host permissions: limited to Demofye's own web app and API, for the sign-in cookie and for uploads you choose to save. The recording helper matches http/https pages so recording keeps working when you navigate to another page, but it stays inactive unless that tab is the one being recorded.
7) Security
Data is sent over HTTPS. Sign-in uses signed, HTTP-only session cookies, and the extension never sees your Google password. Recordings you save are stored with our storage provider and are accessible only through your account or a share link you create. No system is perfectly secure, so please share links with care.
8) User Control and Deleting Your Data
- Delete a recording or project: open the project menu from your dashboard and choose Delete, or move it to Trash first if you want a recovery window.
- Delete your account: go to Settings — this removes your projects, recordings and billing information.
- Revoke a share link: from a project's Share panel, disable or delete the link — it stops resolving immediately.
- Stop using the extension: disable or uninstall it at any time, and clear stored settings through your browser.
9) Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Updates will be reflected by revising the effective date above.
